Vineyard raises funds for Backus

NORWICH - Priam Vineyards in Colchester has developed a special wine to help raise funds for the Backus Foundation's Breast Cancer Survivors' Fund.

Fifteen percent of proceeds from each bottle of Blackledge Rosé will go to the fight against breast cancer.

Gloria Priam, who founded the vineyards with her husband, Gary Crump, in 1998, said she is happy to be able to support the Backus Breast Health Initiatives.

"I have several close relatives who have recently finished bouts of chemotherapy and radiation from breast cancer and at least two of my friends have lost their lives to breast cancer, so this hits very close to home," she said.

The vineyard, located at 11 Shailor Hill Road in Colchester, also offers 13 varieties of wines. It is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and select holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from March through December.

Guided tours are available by reservation at www.priamvineyards.com

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 40,000 women would die from breast cancer in 2007. Only lung cancer accounts for more cancer deaths in women, according to the American Cancer Society.
