Top notch nurses named Nightingales

Ten Backus nurses and one Backus Home Health Care nurse received the region's highest honor for nurses on April 30.
"Congratulations to our Florence Nightingale Award recipients and all of our nominees," said Karen Long, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. "Your consistent hard work and dedication has greatly benefited our patients, and brought much deserved attention to all that you do. Thank you."
The nurses received their awards at the annual Nightingale Awards Ceremony at the Mystic Marriott.
The 2009 Backus Nightingales are:

- Renee Decesare, RN, Emergency Department
- Paula Delponte, RN, A-4 Orthopedic
- Kathleen Gernhard, RN, Radiation Therapy
- Carla Jordan, RN, Clinical Coordinator, E-3/PCU
- Linda Kyle, RN, Clinical Coordinator of Same Day Surgery and Preadmission
- Erin Loughery, RN, A-4 Orthopedic
- Shelbye Maynard, RN, Clinical Director of PACU, Same Day Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging Nursing
- Debra Shelton, RN, E-4 Cardiac/Telemetry
- Desmond Talento, RN, Interventional Radiology
The Backus Home Health Care recipient is:
- Denise Guillemette, LPN, Backus Home Health Care
