Have you ever walked away from a doctor’s appointment wishing you had more information, or weren’t satisfied with the visit?
Attend the next Enjoy LIFE (Lifelong Investment in Fitness and Exercise) seminar to learn how to get the most from your doctor’s visit. Ramindra Walia, MD, Medical Director at United Community and Family Services (UCFS) in Norwich and a member of the Backus Medical Staff, will discuss the importance of having a “medical home,” selecting a physician and how to talk with your doctor.
Doctor/patient relationships have evolved throughout the years. According to a report by the National Institute on Aging, it was customary for a doctor to take the lead in patient care in times gone by. Today however, a good doctor/patient relationship is a partnership. A patient, doctor and other healthcare providers work together for one’s best health.
“It is important that individuals feel comfortable talking to their doctors,” said Alice Facente, RN, organizer of the series. “Opening lines of communication will help your doctor understand what’s troubling you, and it will also give you the opportunity to ask questions on matters which aren’t so clear.”
An Access to Care specialist will be speaking about state insurance programs and eligibility requirements and can facilitate an appointment for screenings and applications. Backus Hospital provides this service in collaboration with UCFS and Generations Family Health Center.
