Backus Auxiliary awards scholarships, makes gift to Three Rivers nursing program
NORWICH – The William W. Backus Hospital Auxiliary awarded two $1,000 student scholarships and made a $2,000 donation to the Three Rivers Community College Nursing Program during its annual Membership Coffee on Tuesday.
The scholarships are the first to be given under a program the auxiliary established last year. Recipients must be the immediate family member of a Backus Hospital employee and plan to pursue study in a health-related field. Recipients were:
- Nicole Eddy, a senior at Norwich Free Academy, who will enter the University of Connecticut, where she plans to study nursing. She aims to become the third generation of nurses in her family. She is the daughter of Dick and Cindy Eddy of Preston.
- Christopher Sibicky, a senior at Griswold High School, who will enter the University of Rhode Island where he plans to study pharmacy. He is the son of Charles and Elizabeth Sibicky of Griswold.
The scholarships were presented by Frances Brennan, co-chair of the auxiliary’s scholarship committee.
Ann Branchini, Director of Nursing and Allied Health at Three Rivers Community College, received the auxiliary’s $2,000 gift from auxiliary President Dorothy Levanto.
