Surgical robot will be special dinner guest

The next Cancer Services Dinner at Backus event will focus on prostate cancer and feature a live presentation of the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
The dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m.Wednesday, March 11. Speakers will follow at 5 p.m.
T. Casey McCullough, DO, a board-certified urologist on the Backus Medical Staff, will explain the surgical options for prostate cancer with the robotic system, as well as give a demonstration.
At Backus Hospital’s annual meeting in November, Dr.McCullough performed several maneuvers that demonstrated how the 3-D vision, magnification and amazing precision of the robot enhance surgeons’ operating skills.
SheidaMani,MD, a radiation oncologist on the BackusMedical Staff, will talk about radiation therapy options for patients. Dennis Slater,MD, a hematologist and oncologist on the BackusMedical Staff, will discuss medical management.
A representative from the American Cancer Society will speak about resources the society offers.
Mark Tramontozzi, MD, a general surgeon on the Backus Medical staff, will serve as master of ceremonies.
The event will be in the hospital’s entry level conference rooms. The program is free, but registration is required by calling 823-6379.
