Summer workouts: From gardening to golf
| Printable version | | |
What do golf and yard work have in common?
They are both warm-weather activities that signal the end of the winter blues and provide good workouts. But they also are the source of many injuries.
In fact, hundreds of thousands of people are hurt each year using yard and garden tools and products, and this doesn't count injuries related to failure to stretch before you begin these activities.
Physical therapists Keith Stark and Geoff Fabry will discuss these topics and more on May 14. Their presentation will include basic exercise programs and the benefits of each; proper preparation for exercising and getting more activity in the warmer weather; and exercise programs and precautions for spring and summer activities, such as golf, baseball, swimming, gardening and hiking.
The program will last about one hour, followed by 30 minutes of questions and answers.
The "Speaking of Your Health: Head to Toe" series is sponsored by the Backus Nursing and Community Health Education Department.
