Bill Stanley’s “Once Upon A Time” CDs go on sale
Proceeds to benefit Backus Hospital and the Norwich Historical Society
NORWICH -- You’ve read his columns.
You’ve seen his books.
Now hear the stories.
Norwich columnist, photographer and historian Bill Stanley has completed his latest project, a two-CD “Talking Book” highlighting his popular “Once Upon A Time” series.
The $25 package of CDs is on sale beginning Friday, Nov. 28 – just in time for the Holiday shopping season -- at the Backus Auxiliary Gift Shop in The William W. Backus Hospital, Suburban Stationers in the Norwichtown Mall, Magazines & More on Salem Turnpike and other locations. All profits will benefit the Backus Auxiliary and the Norwich Historical Society.
Stanley, a Norwich Bulletin columnist, is known for chronicling the major events and people that have become engraved in the region’s history, from the Hurricane of 38 to visits from U.S. presidents and nationally known entertainers.
“Bill Stanley’s columns and photographs are very popular in the Norwich area,” Backus Hospital Vice President of Corporate Communications Keith Fontaine said. “To record his stories on CDs is a natural extension, utilizing modern technology to keep his storytelling alive for generations to come. It’s a perfect gift for any age group, and a great fundraiser for Backus Hospital and the Norwich Historical Society.”
Backus Auxiliary President Dorothy Levanto said money raised through the sale of the CDs would benefit the non-profit, community hospital.
“The Backus Hospital Auxiliary is delighted to be a part of Bill Stanley’s latest endeavor, and privileged to be a recipient of his generosity,” Levanto said. “We are excited to have this new fundraising opportunity.”
Stanley gives much of the credit for the CD to Fontaine.
“Keith (Fontaine) had a wonderful idea -- being a modest man, he doesn’t like to take credit,” Stanley said. “I was approached by Keith with the idea and thought he was right, that the ‘talking book’ is the newest form of recording history and capturing the voice of the author. I thought it was wonderful idea, and we agreed all profits would go to charity. So the book is a labor of love, and I hope that everyone enjoys and embraces it as they have all the previous books at Christmastime.”
Stanley has always shared profits from his books, over the years contributing more than $100,000 to charity. He plans on conducting CD signings at the Backus Auxiliary Gift Ship, Suburban Stationers, Magazines & More and other locations. Dates and times will be announced.
