Learn more about Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses at this month’s Head to Toe community education event.

Micheal Rajkumar,MD, an Infectious Disease Specialist on the BackusMedical Staff, will discuss Lyme disease, babesiosis and human granulocytic anaplasmosis, formerly known as ehrlichia.

“I will talk about conventional treatments for these illnesses, what we know and how we are treating these diseases,” Dr. Rajkumar said.

In 2007, 3,058 cases of Lyme disease were reported in the state, according to the state Department of Public Health. The bacteria are spread by the bite of infected deer ticks. Babesiosis and human granulocytic anaplasmosis also are spread by deer ticks.
