Free screenings for skin cancer
NORWICH – After a wet spring, summer has finally arrived. With the sunshine comes the threat of skin cancer.
Dr. Howard Rogers, a dermatologist on the Medical Staff of The William W. Backus Hospital, will conduct two free skin cancer screenings in Norwich in July:
- July 1 at Hamilton Park Apartments, 281 Hamilton Ave.
- July 15 at Chase Manor, 85 Norman Road.
Look for Backus Hospital’s Mobile Health Resource Center — a 40-foot medical center on wheels — at these locations. Both screenings will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., and information about the prevention and detection of skin cancer will also be available.
Nearly half of all new cancers are skin cancers, Dr. Rogers said. This year, more than 1 million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society.
