Survivors in Fashion Show raises $70,000 for Backus cancer patients
NORWICH – More than 700 people attended the Oct. 18 Survivors in Fashion Show, which raised approximately $70,000 for the Backus Hospital Breast Cancer Survivors Fund.
The 25 stunning models — all of them cancer survivors — made fashion statements with the clothes they wore. But the more important statements they made were their commitment not to let cancer stop them from enjoying life, and a passion to help others do the same. The event, held at the Fox Theater at Mashantucket, was organized by Producer/Director Barbara Chiangi and co-producer Donna Palumbo.
“I want to thank the hard-working Survivors in Fashion Committee and our many sponsors for all that they did to make this event such as success,” said Genevieve Schies, Director of Planned Giving for the Backus Foundation. “The outpouring of support has been just tremendous.”
Ms. Schies said that support included the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and Foxwoods Resort Casino donating the venue, the Fox Theater; the Hard Rock Café hosting two events and raffles to benefit the fund; Nicolas King donating his musical talent; Panera Bread donating a portion of its proceeds for Pink Ribbon Bagels; and Edible Arrangement of Norwich for donating a platter of pink chocolate strawberries for the models.
