Ambulatory Medical Center - Ambulatory Care at Backus Hospital provides outpatient services such as IV Therapy, chemotherapy, blood products, antibiotics, pain management, intravenous immunoglobulin, and other similiar services.

Cancer Center - The William W. Backus Hospital offers a wide variety of cancer programs and services for the people of eastern Connecticut, including some that patients once had to travel long distances to receive.

Cardiology - The cardiology department at Backus Hospital specializes in the diagnois and treatment of diseases and disorders of the heart.

Care Management/Social Services - The purpose of the Care Management team is to make Discharge Planning and Social Services available to patients, their families and significant others to enable them to deal with the impact of illness on individual and family functioning, and to achieve maximum benefits from health care services.

Center for Healthcare Integration (CHI) -
CHI supports modern medicine with complementary therapies such as massage, guided imagery and pet therapy.

Clinics - The Clinics at 107 Lafayette Street provide confidential HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) testing, as well as education and ongoing counseling.

Colorectal Surgery - Surgery to remove cancer is the most common treatment for all stages of colorectal cancer.

CONNCare - CONNCare is the Occupational Health Provider affiliated with The William W. Backus Hospital. CONNCare offers a broad range of workplace related medical services related to prevention, screening, treatment, and management of work related injuries.

Convenient Care - Backus Hospital's Convenient Care is a division of the Emergency Department that treats a wide range of immediate but non-life threatening conditions.

Critical Care Unit - The Florence H. Busby Critical Care Unit has been designed to provide the care and treatment needed for any patient requiring constant nursing observation. The unit has the ability to monitor 12 critically ill patients.

Dermatology - Dermatology is the medical specialty that concerns itself with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin.

Diabetes Management Center - The William W. Backus Hospital has established this Diabetes Management Center to provide comprehensive care to all residents throughout the region. A multi-disciplinary team collaborates with the primary care provider.

Diagnostic Imaging - The Diagnostic Imaging department is one of the hospital's busiest areas seeing tens of thousands of patients each year. It is fully equipped and expertly staffed to provide several distinct types of imaging studies.

Emergency Department - The Edward and Mary Lord Emergency Care and Trauma Center is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, providing comprehensive emergency medical treatment.

Family Practice - Family Medicine, also known as Family Practice or General Practice, is the speciality of medicine that provides comprehensive primary health care, regardless of the age or sex of the patient.

The Dr. Frederick S. Eadie Birthing Center - At The William W. Backus Hospital we have a proud tradition of providing thoughtful, personal maternity care.

Gastroenterology - Gastroenterologists are specialists in the digestive system and its diseases.

Internal Medicine - Specialists in Internal Medicine provide long-term, comprehensive care of patients.

 

Interventional Radiology - Interventional radiology procedures are an advance in medicine which involve no large incisions, less risk, less pain, shorter recovery times, and often replace open surgical procedures.

Laboratory Services - The Clinical Laboratory & Anatomical Pathology department of The William W. Backus Hospital encompasses a wide range of services.

Nephrology - Nephrology is the branch of medicine that specializes in kidney functions and the treatment of conditions and diseases of the kidneys.

Neurology - Neurology is the medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the nervous system.

Pharmacy - The Department of Pharmacy
Services provides prescribed all medication to the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient services, ambulatory care, and the pain management clinic.

Psychiatry - The mission of The William W. Backus Hospital Department of Psychiatric Services is to provide the highest quality mental health services to adults residing in the southeastern Connecticut. The department provides services for a wide range of psychiatric disorders and difficulties including individuals with severe and prolonged mental illness.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation - Pulmonary disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects nearly 2 million Americans and asthma more than 12 million. Prevention and rehabilitative care for patients with pulmonary disease reduce the need for hospitalization and improve survival.

Radiation Therapy - The Dr. Sultan Ahamed Radiation Therapy Center is dedicated to providing you with state-of-the-art, comprehensive radiation therapy for your cancer. Backus offers Image Guided Radiation Therapy, a leading-edge modality. 

Rehabiliation Services - The Department of Rehabilitation Services is a dedicated, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals who provide customized, coordinated holistic care to patients.

Respiratory Therapy - Backus Hospital's respiratory and cardiopulmonary departments cover a wide range of diagnostic procedures and treatments such as electroencephalogram (EEG), echocardiology, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

Surgical Services - The surgical services department is one of the largest areas of the Backus Hospital facility, consisting of the following departments: Same Day Surgery, E-1 Surgical Suite. Pre-Admission Testing and Teaching (PAT), Operating Rooms, Endoscopy and Anesthesia.

Trauma Center - Backus Hospital operates the only Trauma Center east of the Connecticut River. Backus also has a support facility for LIFE STAR, Hartford Hospital's air medical transport helicopter.

Urology Services - Backus Hospital offers testing and treatments of disease and disorders of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive system.

Wound Care/Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - Non-healing wounds of all varieties are managed by our multidisplinary wound care specialists. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may be used to treat a variety of conditions, including diabetic ulcerations and complications of radiation therapy. The hospital has two hyperbaric chambers at the Backus Outpatient Center in Norwich.
