Robot will be guest at next Backus Cancer Services dinner

NORWICH - Live demonstrations of the The William W. Backus Hospital's da Vinci robot will be a highlight of the next Cancer Services Department dinner, which focuses on the latest treatments for prostate cancer.
The free program, which includes dinner, will be held on Wednesday, March 11, from 5-8 p.m. in the entry level conference rooms. Registration is required by calling 823-6379.
Presenters include surgeon Dr. Mark Tramontozzi; urologist Dr. T. Casey McCullough, who will demonstrate new surgical robotic capabilities; Dr. Sheida Mani, who will talk about technological advances in radiation therapy treatment; Dr. Dennis Slater, who will focus on medical management of prostate cancer; and Kathy Turner of the American Cancer Society.
A question and answer session with the panelists will follow the presentation.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common cancer (other than skin cancer) in American men and the second leading cause of cancer death. More than 186,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008.
