Rheumatology program rescheduled

NORWICH - A program called "An Update on Rheumatology" will take place Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 5 - 6 p.m. at the The William W. Backus Outpatient Care Center at 111 Salem Turnpike in Norwich.

Dr. Sandeep Varma, Medical Director of the Backus Arthrtis Center, will discuss the latest treatments for rheumatic illnesses.

Rheumatology treatment includes management of pain in joints, muscles, soft tissues and connective tissues. Some of the ailments treated by rheumatologists include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and gout.

More than 46 million adults in the United States (21%) suffer from some form of arthritis, according to the American College of Rheumatology.
