Come see the inner workings of the Backus Operating Room
NORWICH — The public is invited to tour The William W. Backus Hospital’s operating rooms on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 1-4 p.m.
This year’s Open House, held annually during Perioperative Nurses Week, has a theme of “We’re There for Safe Care.” Nurses, physicians and others will highlight safety initiatives and protocols in the E-1 Surgical unit.
The program, coordinated by operating room nurses at Backus, is free and open to the public. It allows people to personally meet and learn more about the professionals who staff the operating rooms, as well as the latest treatments and technology that the hospital offers.
Coordinators say that familiarity with operating room staff, procedures and technology can help educate and lessen apprehension of both adults and youngsters when they or their family members need surgical procedures. Questions from visitors are welcomed and encouraged.
Those planning to attend the event are asked to park in the visitor parking lot at the front of the hospital. Tour guides will meet guests in the main lobby and escort them to the surgical suite. Reservations are not necessary.
