NORWICH -- The Backus Nursing and Community Health Education Department lecture series "Speaking of Your Health: Head to Toe" will continue with "Migraines and Other Pains in the Head" on Oct. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. in The William W. Backus Hospital entry level conference rooms.
The presenter will be Anthony Alessi, MD, Chief of Neurology at Backus.
The event is free but registration is requested by calling 823-6313. Light refreshments will be served and Alessi will sell and sign copies of his recently published book, "Healthy Sports: A Doctor's Lessons for a Winning Lifestyle," proceeds of which benefit the Backus Foundation.
Migraines, which cause excruciating head pain, affect 29.5 million Americans.
"Migraines are the No. 1 cause of diminished productivity in the workplace in the United States," said Alessi. "We will give people strategies to deal with them."
Alessi said he will review different types of head pain in addition to migraines. He will discuss different pharmaceutical treatments and alternative treatments to relieve migraine pain.
