Patients are enjoying the convenience and proximity of Backus Hospital’s new blood drawing station in Plainfield.

Tim Shizume, Director of Laboratory Services at Backus, said in the five months the lab has been open, the number of patients has increased steadily. During September, 25-30 patients a week visited the site, and now there is an average of 45-50 patients a week.

“We have heard a lot of positive feedback from patients. They are glad to have a facility closer to where they live and are even requesting an increase in services,”Mr. Shizume said. “It has been a very successful venture.”

The blood drawing station is at 102-122 Plainfield Road inMoosup. It is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

It serves patients in northeastern Connecticut and western Rhode Island. It is more convenient for these patients, with plenty of parking and quick service, Mr. Shizume said.

For patients who need blood tests or other lab work done regularly, it is easier than having to come into the hospital, he added.
