The Emergency Department project included these significant enhancements:

  • Approximately 25,000 square feet, doubling its previous size.
  • Additional trauma capacity for the most life-threatening situations.
  • An increase from 23 to 42 beds.
  • Greater patient privacy and amenities.
  • More comfortable and larger waiting areas.

The entire surgical area benefited greatly from these renovations:

  • Approximately 24,500 square feet.
  • A dedicated pre-admission assessment and registration area and a larger waiting area.
  • 19 new Same Day Surgery bays, large enough for family visitation.
  • Four new consultation rooms.
  • Four additional recovery chairs and an isolation room.

Two floors in the existing E-wing have been completely reconstructed.
Units now include the most up-to-date technology, safety and design features:

  • A computerized telemetry system to monitor the condition of all patients.
  • Private rooms with private bathrooms.
  • A centrally located nursing station and second nursing center if required to accommodate shifts in patient volume and clinical needs.
  • Private space for doctor/patient/family consultation.

With the BackusCare project, our Hospital is continuing to offer the most powerful tools in the fight against cancer:

  • The addition of an Elekta Synergy®
  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) system.
  • IGRT uses CT scan technology to verify, in
real-time, the exact position of tumors and direct radiation treatment with greater precision.
  • A 2,500-square-foot expansion of the Cancer Center to accommodate this new technology and allow for larger simulation and treatment planning areas.
