For the second time in the past year, The William W. Backus Hospital has been named among the top hospitals in the nation for delivering high quality healthcare.

Total Benchmark Solution, LLC, announced that Backus Hospital is a recipient of the Total Benchmark Solution Top 100 Quality Award, ranking Backus 38th nationwide based on data provided to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Only one other hospital in Connecticut achieved this distinction – Griffin Hospital in Derby.

This is the second independent healthcare quality company to recognize Backus this year for its excellence in healthcare. In January, another company ranked Backus among the top 5 percent of all hospitals nationwide for clinical quality.

The rankings are based on data in 15 healthcare categories provided by hospitals nationwide to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“This honor is a testament to our entire Hospital staff, which works so hard to provide quality healthcare to the patients we serve,” explains Dr. Peter Shea, who along with Dr. Larry Coletti oversees the Hospital’s Quality Improvement initiatives. “Our employees and Medical Staff take great pride knowing that patients feel confident they are receiving quality healthcare in a community hospital setting.”

Backus President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas P. Pipicelli said the recognition reflects Hospital Staff’s commitment to quality.

“I want to personally congratulate all of our employees and Medical Staff for the contributions they have made to make Backus Hospital the quality healthcare institution it is today.” Mr. Pipicelli said. "These achievements are the direct result of their tireless efforts, which are unparalleled in the region.”
