Cancer Care Delivery Is Very Complex, and to be successful you must have a unified vision on the part of the Hospital and the physician’s office.
- Dinesh Kapur, Md, Medical Director Of Cancer Services At Backus Hospital
Providing quality cancer care means working hard to integrate many people and services: medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgeons, radiology, nutrition services, physical therapy — so that all of these components are operating as one.
This vision can make a real difference in our patients’ lives — a difference that helps them feel there is hope. Giving patients a life to look forward to is what motivates me as Medical Director of Cancer Services at Backus Hospital and a physician with Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology (ECHO) Associates.
That’s why the Hospital and my practice strive to be the best — to provide the latest innovations, the best care possible in a unified environment, here in the patient’s own community.
We want to deliver the best in cancer care here, so patients and their loved ones don’t have to drive long distances. At Backus Hospital, we have the latest treatments and technologies, but we also have more than that: the nurses and physicians know the patients by their first names, and the patients feel more comfortable coming to a familiar place, rather than being just a number in a large institution. This is a way to make their lives easier, to improve their quality of life, and that’s important for cancer patients and their families.
Because of the teamwork between Backus Hospital and ECHO Associates, our patients have access to the latest clinical trials and technology. Our mission is to work together to make sure this continues in the future.
From the physician’s office perspective, we are able to meet patients’ needs by having the latest clinical trials available, the latest antibody treatments, the latest biologics.
The Hospital’s vision is to incorporate all the latest technologies, whether it be the 16-Slice CT Scan, PET-CT or the latest in radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
With these two visions going hand-inhand, we will be able to build on our successes, to meet the many healthcare challenges and better the lives of cancer patients in the process.
Because of our talented, forward-thinking and caring staff, I am proud to say there is a solid framework for this excellence in cancer care to continue.
