New Backus position dedicated to healthcare excellence

Bonnie Thompson, APRN, has been named Administrative Director of Organizational Excellence at Backus Hospital.
In this new position, she will oversee patient safety, quality improvement, epidemiology, regulatory compliance and emergency management.
"The core concept of organizational excellence is about our ability to provide exceptional patient-centered care for our patients," said Peter Shea, MD, Senior Vice President and ChiefMedical Officer.
"My goal is to not only gather the data, but make it actionable and turn it into things we can use to get better,"Ms. Thompson said.
Dave Whitehead, President and Chief Executive Officer, said the creation of a dedicated directorship for excellence across the organization is an example of the hospital's commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
"Bonnie has demonstrated a passion for patient safety and communication in her role as Patient Safety Officer," Mr.Whitehead said. "Our new structure, and this challenging position, provides the framework for quality performance oversight hospital-wide."
Ms. Thompson joined Backus in July 2008 as the Director of Patient Safety.
"Bonnie has really created a great patient safety program that's generated excitement and interest," Dr. Shea said. "I look forward to working with her in this expanded role."
