Backus experts discuss Methamphetamine use

NORWICH  -  Knowledge about methamphetamine use now and in the past will be explored at an educational program sponsored by The William W. Backus Hospital Department of Psychiatric Services on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The topic, “Crystal Meth: Old Player – New Game,” will be presented by three professionals from the Backus Hospital staff.

They are: Herb Nieburg, PhD, Emergency Liaison Clinician at Backus and adjunct psychology professor at Three Rivers Community College, Rose Zmyslinski, Psychiatric Clinic Nurse Specialist at Backus and adjunct faculty member at the UConn School of Nursing, and Judith  Mills, Psychiatric Nurse Clinician in the Backus Center for Mental Health.

Their objectives are to present an overall review of methamphetamines, their pharmacology and effects on behavior, the historical perspective and current use of these drugs, and treatment options and resources.

The free program is open to the public. It will be held in Backus entry level conference rooms 2 and 3 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Reservations are not necessary.
