PrintThe Department of Laboratory Services at The William W. Backus Hospital develops and implements policies and procedures that are consistent with the regulations and standards of the following regulatory agencies:
Legal and Regulatory Agencies
• U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS);
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA);
• Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC);
• Department of Transportation (DOT);
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA);
• Food and Drug Administration (FDA);
• Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA);
• State of Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH);
Professional Associations and Accrediting Agencies
• The Joint Commission (TJC);
• College of American Pathologists (CAP);
• American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
The Department also coordinates all policies and procedures implemented with the other hospital departments to ensure continuity of practices.
