Backus to Host Community Health Event
NORWICH – The William W. Backus Hospital will host Health Check 2003, a community event featuring health information, screenings and demonstrations, on June 6 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.
Everything at Health Check is free, but participants must have a ticket to that evening's Norwich Navigators game against the Bowie Baysox to gain admission. Exhibitors will be on the concourse inside the stadium. The game begins at 7:05 p.m.
In addition to several Backus Hospital departments, exhibitors will include: Eastern Connecticut Rehabilitation Centers, United Community and Family Services, American Ambulance, the Uncas Health District and the Connecticut VNA SE.
Dr. Howard Rogers, a dermatologist at the Chelsea Clinic, will offer a skin cancer screening; Generations will provide pulse oximetry testing; cholesterol, blood pressure, balance and osteoporosis screenings also will be available. The Backus Hospital's Trauma Department mascot, Traumaroo, will be on hand with fun handouts and activities for youngsters.
The raindate for the event is June 7.
