For more than 112 years, Backus Hospital has provided quality healthcare to the residents of eastern Connecticut. The 213-bed, not-for-profit, acute care community Hospital is the primary source of health services for nearly a quarter-million people. Since its founding in 1893, Backus Hospital has continually expanded, providing new programs and services and forming strategic alliances with other healthcare organizations and providers. Backus is the only state-designated trauma center east of the Connecticut River, and it is the only regional facility that can receive, via air medical transport helicopter, patients with severe traumatic injuries.
