NORWICH - The William W. Backus Hospital and American Ambulance of Norwich are teaming up to offer free CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The three-hour session, from 9 a.m. to noon, will be held at American Ambulance and Education Services at 1 American Way. The training will be provided by the ambulance company's affiliate American Professional Educational Services. To register for either session, call 886-1463. Space is limited.
Legislature recently passed two bills that provide civil immunity for people providing, maintaining, or using automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and requiring them in schools.
Backus Hospital is underwriting the cost of the training so it is free to the public.
The training is provided as part the Larry Pontbriant Athletic Safety Fund, which Lawrence and Evelyn Pontbriant established following the unexpected death of their son from cardiac arrest. The fund is being used for purchase and distribution of AEDs in places where athletes congregate in the region, as well as training and awareness activities.
