Medical Coverage

Backus hospital offers several options for comprehensive medical coverage. These options include preventive care for infants, children and adults, as well as extensive coverage for illness and injury. Coverage options for both in-network and out-of network services are provided. Many services are covered in full, or after a small copayment, when provided at Backus or from an in-network provider. The plans also include vision care and prescription drugs.

Dental Coverage

The emphasis of this plan is on preventive care, which is covered at 100%. The plan also provides coverage for basic and major restorative care, (with a maximum of $1,000 per year, per person).

Life Insurance

Backus Hospital employees enjoy the benefits of a Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance plan. The amount of coverage is dependent upon the employee’s salary, and is offered at no cost to the employee. For added security, a Supplemental Life insurance plan is also available for employees and their dependents.

Long Term Disability Plan

In the event of an extended period of disability, Backus Hospital provides salary protection through a Long Term Disability Plan. This benefit is provided at no cost to the employee.

Medical & Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts

Tax sheltered Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to pay for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses on a tax-free basis. Backus Hospital sponsors the administration of this program at no cost to employees.

Retirement Plan

Financial security during retirement years is an important issue for everyone. That is why Backus Hospital pays the total cost of funding the Retirement Income Plan for employees. The plan provides varying benefits for early retirement, normal retirement and late retirement, and includes several options for payment forms. The hospital also offers Tax Deferred Annuities to which employees may contribute.

Tuition Reimbursement & Professional Certification

We encourage our staff to continually develop and improve skills that allow us to provide our patients with the best care possible. We offer financial incentives and assistance in the form of tuition reimbursement for job-related and degree program coursework, as well as annual bonuses for approved professional certifications.

Paid Time Off

We believe that to achieve a balance between work and personal life, the time that you spend away from work can be as important as the time you spend at Backus. We have a generous vacation and sick accrual policy. For full-time employees, starting annual accruals are as follows:

EXEMPT

Vacation: 4 weeks (160 hrs.)
Holidays: 6 legal
Sick Leave: 10 days (80 hrs.)

NON-EXEMPT

Vacation: 3 weeks (120 hrs.)
Holidays: 6 legal
Sick Leave: 10 days (80 hrs.)

Child Care Center

Eligible employees of the hospital may enroll their children in the hospital’s dependent care program. The Child Care Center is structured to provide emotional, social, physical and intellectual development to children. The center offers an infant, toddler and preschool programs. All programs are subject to space availability. Eligible employees utilizing this service can elect to use pre-tax dollars from their salary for this purpose.

Smoke-Free Work Environment

The hospital strictly enforces this policy.

Employee Assistance Program

The hospital offers this service to employees who may have personal problems (marital, financial, emotional, substance abuse, etc.) that can affect their job performance.

Credit Union

The hospital has an on-site credit union which offers employees a wide range of professional financial services.
