NORWICH -- The Backus Nursing and Community Health Education Department lecture series "Speaking of Your Health: Head to Toe" will continue with "Treatment Options for Painful Periods and Uterine Fibroids" on Dec. 11 from 6:30-8 p.m. in The William W. Backus Hospital entry level conference rooms.
Presenters will be Dr. David Kalla, an OB/GYN on the Backus Hospital Medical Staff and Dr. Herb Lustberg, an interventional radiologist on the Backus Medical Staff.
The event is free but registration is requested by calling 823-6313. Light refreshments will be served.
Up to 40% of American women ages 35-50 have uterine fibroids, according to the Society of Interventional Radiology. These noncancerous growths can cause painful periods, heavy and prolonged monthly bleeding, anemia, pelvic pain and pressure.
Many women with fibroids suffer silently and seek no treatment options at all.
