CHI seeks volunteer complementary therapists

Backus Hospital’s Center for Healthcare Integration (CHI) is seeking to expand the current number of therapists who volunteer. CHI provides complementary therapies to inpatients such as Healing Touch, Massage, Reflexology and Reiki.
An informational gathering will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the hospital’s entry level conference rooms for any therapist interested in becoming part of the program. Two volunteer therapists will share their experiences, and information about the application process will be available.
“The feedback from our patients has been overwhelmingly positive and the therapists have also benefited greatly, often describing their experience as a privilege. We have a wonderful team of dedicated therapists and welcome the addition of interested therapists,” said Amy Dunion, RN, LMT, CHI Coordinator.
Monthly schedules are flexible, so therapists can volunteer once a week or a few hours a month. All therapists are mentored until they are comfortable with the protocol for treating patients and familiar with the hospital setting.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Ms. Dunion at 860-425-3877 or Paula Novak, RN, Clinical Coordinator Healing Touch and Integrative Care, at 860-889-8331, ext. 2163.
