Car seat clinic begins
NORWICH — For years, residents of in the greater Norwich area have had to travel long distances to get their car seats inspected.
They don’t have to anymore.
Four local organizations have teamed up to offer a car seat clinic once a month at the Norwich Fire Department station on North Thames Street (off West Main Street).
The inspection station will be open the first Friday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The clinic is made possible by The William W. Backus Hospital, Safe Kids New London County, the Norwich Fire Department and the Norwich Safe Communities Coalition.
Thousands of lives could be saved per year if car seats are installed correctly nationwide. According to SAFE KIDS, properly used and installed child care seats reduce the risk of death by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.
Four out of every five car seats are used improperly, according to the national SAFE KIDS campaign.
Registration is required. To make an appointment, call 442-0733.
