Cancer relays combine to raise more than $235,000
Backus Hospital teams played major roles in American Cancer Society Relay for Life events recently.
The Relay for Life of Eastern Connecticut in Plainfield drew 960 walkers and raised $141,891. The co-chair of the event was Wendy Brennan, of the Finance Department at Backus. Two Backus walking teams participated.
At the Relay for Life of Southeastern Connecticut, more than 500 walkers raised more than $95,000, a hefty increase from last year.
Ginny Mabesoone, RN, Clinical Director of Backus Hospital's oncology floor and other services, organized the Backus team and was the survivor speaker at the June 27 event.

Backus Birthing Center Open House
More than 100 parents-to-be took part in an open house January 23 at Backus. The event included tours of the Backus Birthing Center and presentations by an obstetrician, pediatrician, anesthesiologist, social workers and other professionals.
