To qualify for the Backus Weight Loss Center program patients must:
Be at least 100 pounds overweight, or have a body mass index of 40 or a BMI of 35 and suffering from one or more severe obesity related health problems. BMI Calculator »
Be at least 18 years old.
Have been overweight for more than five years.
Be prepared to attend regular follow up sessions and make lifestyle changes.
Mark Tousignant, MD, Medical Director of the Backus Weight Loss Center, performed the first two LAP-BAND® surgeries done at Backus Hospital on Sept. 7. The surgical procedures are part of an overall weight loss program that includes nutritional counseling, support groups and behavioral screenings.
