Bikers donate toys in name of Nightclub Fire victim
Nov. 8 event at Backus Hospital will benefit pediatric patients at hospital
NORWICH – Children who are patients at The William W. Backus Hospital will be beneficiaries of a toy run organized by Tim Miceli of Norwich in remembrance of his brother, Sam Miceli, and the other victims of The Station nightclub fire in West Warwick, RI, on Feb. 20, 2003.
The Toy Run for Pediatric Patients at Backus Hospital is expected to involve between 50 and 100 motorcyclists – each of whom will bring a toy or monetary donation. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at around 12:30 p.m.
Youngsters — inpatients, or those who come to Same Day Surgery or the Emergency Department — will benefit from the charity of Mr. Miceli’s brother and friends, Backus spokesman Shawn Mawhiney said.
“ Receiving a new toy often helps soothe a child who is ill or frightened, and this enables medical personnel to more easily treat young patients,” Mawhiney said. “Backus Hospital is honored to be the beneficiary of this event, and we thank the Miceli family for their generosity and thoughtfulness.”
