Backus welcomes first baby of the New Year!
Brandon Jin Tan came into the world on Monday, Jan. 2 at
7:05 p.m. Born to parents Karen Lam and
Zhen Tan of Norwich, the baby boy was Backus’ first baby of 2012.
Delivered by David Kalla, MD, the bundle of joy weighed in at 6 lbs., 15 oz.
“I was surprised when I started having contractions on the first,” said Ms. Lam. “I wasn’t due until Jan. 5, so I never thought I would have a New Year’s baby. I also never thought about having Backus’ first baby of the year.”
Prior to New Year’s, the staff of the Birthing Center collected new baby goods to donate to the first family. This year’s collection included a laundry basket filled with diapers, wipes, onezies, bibs, teething ring and outfits. For the last few years, Michelle Hayes, RN, of the night shift has spearheaded the project, collecting and organizing items from the staff and making the final arrangement.
At home, baby Brandon will join big sister, Isabelle who just turned two in December. Isabelle was also a Backus baby.
“The baby was very special gift for both Christmas and New Year’s,” said Ms. Lam.
