Mark Tousignant, MD
Medical Director of the Backus Weight Loss Center
Mark has special training in laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedures. A member of the medical staff since 2008 and is board certified in General Surgery. He completed his training in general surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. He attended medical school at MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to becoming a surgeon, he was an engineer.
Dr. Tousignant specializes in the treatment of a wide range of general surgery problems with the latest minimally invasive surgery techniques, for the treatment of thyroid disease/cancer, parathyroid disease, hiatal hernia, reflux disease, gallbladder disease, breast surgery, abdominal wall hernia and colorectal disease. He performs the most laparoscopic inginual and ventral hernias in the area. Additionally, Dr. Tousignant is one of only a handful of surgeons in the state of Connecticut that performs scarless surgery for the treatment of gallbladder disease.
Wendy Kane, RD, CDE, CDN
Wendy is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator. Wendy has practiced as a dietitian for over 15 years and as a diabetes educator, for the last nine years at the Backus Hospital Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Center. She uses her strong interpersonal skills and her passion for healthy eating and physical activity to help others reach their health and fitness goals. In addition to working at WW Backus Hospital, Wendy is a nutrition consultant for a variety of community programs, including Colchester Elementary School’s Pre-K program and a local visiting nurses association. Wendy has her B.S. in Clinical Dietetics from the University of Connecticut and completed her clinical training in area hospitals. She currently lives in Colchester, CT with her husband and two daughters. Wendy enjoys photography, swimming, running, biking and spending time with her family.
Geoffrey Fabry
a 1997 graduate of University of Connecticut’s Physical Therapy program. His first job out of school was at Backus Hospital, and because of the various types of therapy, the great coworkers, and the extensive involvement in the community, he has remained there. He provides physical therapy and education to the southeastern Connecticut community at the Backus Outpatient Care Center and the Hospital, as well as worker’s compensation therapy for the employees of Foxwoods. He is active in outdoor activities year round, and has a passion for sports. “The best parts of the job are helping people return to their pre-injury activities and meeting the wonderful people of our community.”
