Backus to host a multicultural health fair
NORWICH – The William W. Backus Hospital will host a Multicultural
Health Fair on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. in its entry level
conference rooms.
The free event, open to the public, will offer information on the many different cultures that are represented in eastern Connecticut, including their customs and preferences relevant to healthcare.
Representatives from various cultures will hand out information on birth customs, gender issues, communication and respect styles, and end-of-life issues.
The event will also include ethnic food samples and recipes.
“Our focus is to make this an educational event that celebrates the great diversity that makes up our patient, employee and community population,” said Alice Facente, a nurse in the Backus Education Department.
Cultures and countries to be represented include Greece, China, Native American, African American, Philippines, Israel, Haiti, Pakistan, Portugal, Spanish, India, Poland and Russia.
