NORWICH - The William W. Backus Hospital's Center for Healthcare Integration is offering a four-week series providing support for people challenged with cancer and the side effects of treatment.
"I Can! Hypno-Oncology: Complementary Cancer Care" incorporates instruction in self-hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique, Guided Imagery and art as medicine ¬-- techniques that can help to reduce pain, nausea, fatigue and anxiety while supporting recovery and well-being.
Classes will be held in the hospital's Medical Office Building on Wednesdays from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Two series are available; the winter series will begin on Feb. 4 and the spring series will begin April 1. The class fee is $15 per week, or $60 for the four-week series. Registration is required by calling The Center for Healthcare Integration (CHI) at 425-3877. Space is limited.
The foundation of the course is built upon the work of Dr. Bernie Siegel and his "whole-person" Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECaP) philosophy that integrates complementary therapies with medical care to lead to more effective and satisfying outcomes.
The series, led by instructor Jane Percy, Certified Hypnotherapist, is made possible by the Backus Foundation's Breast Cancer Survivors Fund. Ms. Percy has specialized training in Hypno-Oncology and Medical Hypnosis; is certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists, and is the director of Riverlight Wellness Center in Stonington.
