NORWICH - Dr. Anthony Alessi, Chief of Neurology at Backus, is the host of a new national satellite radio series, "NeuroFrontiers."
The series explores the latest clinical issues, trends and technologies in neurology, covering topics such as migraines and epilepsy.
"NeuroFrontiers" is heard twice daily on ReachMD, XM 160, The Channel for Medical Professionals and online at www.ReachMD.com with new programs highlighted each week. It is produced by ReachMD in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).
This is Dr. Alessi's latest venture into media, which started in 2007 with the weekly Healthy Living and Healthy Sports columns in the Norwich Bulletin. An associated podcast and blog soon followed on www.backushospital.org, evolving into the book "Healthy Sports: A Doctor's Lessons for a Winning Lifestyle," published last fall.
Then came his "Healthy Rounds" radio show, a weekly show based on the Healthy Sports column, which is broadcast Saturdays from 2-3 p.m. on WXLM 104.7-FM.
"It's hard calling it all work," said Dr. Alessi, who admits he relaxes by writing his weekly Healthy Sports column.
Dr. Alessi said his favorite part of what he does is making it meaningful. Feedback from those who've read the weekly column or heard his radio show lets him know he's connected with his audience.
"Those types of stories make it all worthwhile," he said.
