Backus Health Center in Colchester adds new imaging services

Printable version |

COLCHESTER– The Colchester Backus Health Center has added digital mammography, bone density screenings, and additional MRI hours the first week in May.

Digital mammography produces clearer images faster and studies show it may be more effective in detecting breast cancer. Because the health center is digitally connected to the main hospital campus, board-certified radiologists at Backus are able to review the images and quickly consult with physicians who order the test.

The bone density screenings will be done using the latest DEXA scan

technology. The test measures bone density, which is a way of diagnosing osteoporosis. Women older than 65 should be tested routinely, and testing is recommended for all postmenopausal women between the ages of 50 and 65 years who have risk factors for osteoporosis other than menopause.

In addition, due to increased demand, MRI hours have expanded to Wednesday and Friday. Other radiology services offered include ultrasound, X-ray and CT scans.

“We continue to add the latest imaging technology in Colchester, where there is a high demand for these services,” said Julius Kocsondy, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Backus.
