Backus expands main lab hours

In response to patient feedback, Backus Hospital is expanding the hours of its blood drawing station on its main hospital campus.

The lab at 326 Washington Street will open at 6 a.m., instead of 7 a.m., beginning on May 4.

Tim Shizume, Laboratory Administrative Director, said this will help patients getting their blood drawn before they go to work, and also decrease the time they need to wait before they can eat breakfast.

The lab also has other customer service initiatives underway.

A new patient survey is being distributed on site so that patients can give feedback while they are visiting, and issues can be addressed in real time.

In addition, a team has been created so that when lines get long, extra staff can be added to reduce wait times.

"Backus Hospital is focused on patient-centered care, and that includes the labs," Mr. Shizume said. "We want to be easily accessible to patients, make the blood drawing process easy for them and provide them with the best customer service around. That's our goal."
