Women's health and wellness is the focus of the Pink Fair - a free event that will include a luminaria ceremony in honor of those who have battled breast cancer and videos and other displays that showcase all Backus Hospital has to offer from cancer care to the latest technology, programs and screenings.
"We're focusing on education, access and patient care," said Genevieve Schies, Director of Planned Giving for the Backus Foundation. "The outpouring of support from our sponsors and exhibitors speaks to the generosity and commitment of our local businesses and individuals in helping us keep our community healthy - and for that we are grateful."
"Everyone can attend and learn more about the newest treatment available, our complementary therapies and support programs," said Joyce Kuusela, RN. As the hospital's Breast Health Patient Navigator, she helps guide women with abnormal mammograms through the healthcare system.
Ms. Schies said people will be able to see demonstrations of the leading edge technology, such as digital mammography and the daVinci Surgical System, as well as partake in free health screenings, including bone densitometry. There also will be information about insurance options for women and families.
On hand will be:
- Information about the daVinci robot, which is now being used for hysterectomies.
- Diagnostic Imaging, which offers the very best radiology services in the region.
- The Backus Center for Healthcare Integration (CHI), which offers a wide array of complementary therapies.
- Backus nutritionists.
- Access to Care specialists, who help link people to insurance programs and medical homes.
- The Backus Mobile Health Resource Center, which offers screenings throughout the community.
- OB GYN Associates, which offers many women's health services.
- Mark Tramontozzi, MD, a surgeon on the Backus Medical Staff.
- Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology, highlighting its ongoing clinical trials.
- Renewal Medical Day Spa.
- United Community & Family Services.

- Backus Home Health Care.

- Survivors in Fashion will also attend to greet visitors. People can purchase Circles of Care for $1, and Pink Hugs - handcrafted survivor boas, to support the Backus Breast Health Initiative.
