Pre-natal Yoga class set for Backus
NORWICH
– A five-week pre-natal yoga class designed for women in all stages of pregnancy will be held Fridays, April 18, 25 and May 2, 9 and 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in room B-232.
The instructor is Carol Klammer, a registered yoga teacher, who will focus on relaxation and reducing stress at home or at work through practices learned in class. Registration should be made at least one week in advance by calling 887-3388. There is a $50 fee for this program.

Breast-feeding Classes at Backus
NORWICH – Backus Hospital will offer free breast-feeding classes to introduce the art of breast-feeding, dispelling myths and introducing successful methods. Women are encouraged to attend when they are in at least their 34th week of pregnancy.
The next classes will be held on Monday, April 14, and Saturday, April 19, in the Backus Birthing Center. Registration is required by calling 834-6359.

Sibling Program at Backus
NORWICH – A Sibling Program will be held on April 23 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Room B-232 at Backus Hospital.
The program, presented by the hospital as a community service, is for children 3 to 6 years old, who are awaiting a new brother or sister. The program includes a video about a family with a new baby, information from a Birthing Center registered nurse, and a tour of the Labor and Delivery Department, where youngsters can see where mom will be, and look at infants in the nursery.
Children are to bring a stuffed animal or doll with them for educational play time. There is no charge for the program. To register, call Backus Public Relations, 834-6381.

Community program on skin cancer
NORWICH – Howard Rogers, MD, dermatologist on the Backus Hospital Medical Staff, will discuss the risks, types and treatments for skin cancer at a community education program on Wednesday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the entry level Conference Rooms at Backus. Registration is required by calling Community Health/Nursing Education at 823-6313. The program is free.

Blood Pressure Screening at Backus
NORWICH – The free monthly community blood pressure screening at Backus Hospital will be held on Wednesday, April 16, in entry level Conference Room 2. Registration is not needed.

Evening Infant Massage Class Offered at Backus Hospital
NORWICH - The next series of Infant Massage Classes beginning on June 6 at Backus Hospital will offer parents a choice of morning or evening sessions. Parents with babies aged three weeks to the creeping stage, about 11 months old, will have the opportunity to learn innovative techniques of infant massage during this five-session course to be offered on five consecutive Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Certified Massage Therapist Charis Tondreau, licensed through the International Association of Infant Massage Instructors, will teach step-by-step massage and relaxation techniques which help promote loving bonds between parents and their babies. Each parent and baby enrolled in the program will receive individualized instruction and attention.
Mrs. Tondreau said benefits of infant massage include: strengthening and regulating respiratory, circulatory and gastrointestinal functions, often relieving discomforts of colic and gas through stimulation; helping the baby relax; and keeping parents in touch with their infant's non-verbal cues.
There is a fee for the course. Parents interested in registering for either the morning or evening program may call Ms. Tondreau at 564-4753 for further information.
