Cancer survivors to take stage as models
The William W. Backus Hospital is selling tickets and seeking sponsors for its 2011 Survivors in Fashion show, to be held Oct. 20 from 7-9 p.m. at the Fox Theatre. Approximately 20 cancer survivors will take part in the fashion show, which in addition to being a fundraiser shows that there is hope after being diagnosed with breast cancer. This year's theme is "We are a Family."

Donation links patients to community doctors
The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation has pledged $100,000 toward MyHealthDirect, an innovative tool at Backus Hospital that links patients who lack a primary care physician with appropriate healthcare providers. This provides more timely and ongoing care for patients, and reduces visits to the emergency room.

Annual gifts from individuals, businesses, service organizations and foundations are the cornerstone of philanthropic support for the Office of Philanthropy and Development, and have been for more than a century.
Contributions generated through the Annual Appeal are used where the need is greatest to advance the cause of a healthier community. Charitable funds enable us to acquire the most advanced technology and life-saving equipment, update and maintain facilities, and support health education programs on and off the Hospital campus.
