Local student receives $20K scholarship from Backus

Backus Hospital recently partnered with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Trust Fund to award Christina Watts, a senior at East Lyme High School with a $20,000 scholarship to be disbursed in $5,000 installments over a four-year period. Ms. Watts is pursing a career in medicine and would like to become an OB/GYN.

Bob Seger Ticket Sales to Benefit Backus Program

The William W. Backus Hospital is selling tickets for the Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band concert on November 26 at 8 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Casino. Donated by the Mohegan Tribe, tickets are $100 and include skybox seating and a cash bar. All proceeds will benefit the Backus Volunteer Bridge Program.

Survivors in Fashion shine in the spotlight

A nearly packed Fox Theater experienced a message of hope and inspiration at the 2011 Survivors in Fashion Extravaganza Thursday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
Nineteen stunning models — all breast cancer survivors — took the stage as a fundraiser for the Backus Hospital Breast Cancer Survivors Fund.
