Flu, falls and food:
Backus web sites have you covered
What do flu, falls and food have in common?
They are all health topics that affect many people, and Backus Hospital has established special websites for you to get the answers you need, when you need them.
www.backushospital.org/flu.
Get the latest information on the seasonal flu and H1N1 virus. The site - produced in collaboration with community partners like United Community & Family Services, the Uncas Health District and Backus Home Health Care - offers the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Connecticut Department of Public Health; ways to find flu shot clinics in the local area; videos featuring Backus physicians and a wide range of flu precaution and prevention information in various languages.
www.backushospital.org/nutrition.
This site offers the latest diet and nutrition from Backus dietitians in the form of videos, blogs, podcasts, columns, health tips and recipes. A "Kid's Corner" section of the website offers information specifically for kids - from packing healthy lunches to creative ways to get them to eat their vegetables. The site is updated weekly and includes a series of videos featuring the "Nutrition Detectives" - Backus dietitians who will visit your kitchen and point out what's healthy - and what's not.
www.backushospital.org/falls.
Although not widely known as a health problem, falls in the hospital or at home can cause very serious problems for patients. This site includes a video of fall prevention efforts at Backus, and information about how you and your loved ones can avoid falls.
