Learning how to stay safe can be fun at The William W. Backus Hospital's annual Safety Camp on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Backus Medical Office Building.
Whether kids are crawling through the fire safety trailer or checking out fire trucks and ambulances, they can learn about injury prevention and what to do in an emergency through interactive activities geared towards children of all ages, from toddlers to teens.
Highlights of the free event include:
- Tours of LIFE STAR medical helicopter.
- Free bicycle helmets are fitted and given to children, along with bicycle safety tips.
- American Red Cross water and pool safety presentation.
- 911 training and information about booster seat and poison safety.
- A smoke house to learn about fire safety.
- Booths featuring sun and sports safety information and activities.
- Ambulance and fire departments will showcase their equipment.
- Face painting, free food and refreshments.
- A Wheel of Safety.
This is the fifth year Backus Hospital has hosted Safety Camp, which coincides with Trauma Awareness Month, Emergency Services Awareness Week, Safe Kids Week and National Hospital Week.
"This is a great opportunity for families to come out and learn about safety," Fred Potter, EMS Coordinator for Backus.
