Backus Auxiliary awards scholarships

The William W. Backus Hospital Auxiliary awarded scholarships to three local residents: Deena Pearson of Waterford, Alyssa Provost of Baltic, and Brian Dawley of Norwich.

Ms. Pearson, currently a certified surgical technologist in the Backus Operating Room, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut. Ms. Provost, a graduating senior from the Norwich Free Academy, will study Occupational Therapy at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, this fall. Mr. Dawley, a recent magna cum laude graduate from Plymouth State University, will study at Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine this summer.

The Backus Hospital Auxiliary assists the hospital in having a positive impact on the community's health and welfare, and annually awards scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary study in a medical field.
