What we provide:
A Team Approach is utilized within our multidisciplinary setting at Backus Outpatient Care Center. We provide a holistic program which helps stimulate development and independence in the areas of self-care, mobility, social adjustment, gross/fine motor skills and communication.
Physical Therapy: We base treatment on therapeutic exercises and activities to increase mobility, strength, range of motion and gross motor skills.
Occupational Therapy: We focus treatment on purposeful activities of daily living. Sensory integration, Orthopedic and Neurological deficits are addressed.
Speech Therapy: We provide treatment in areas of speech-language, cognitive and feeding/swallowing difficulties.
Our physical and occupational therapists hold bachelors or master’s degrees from accredited university programs. Speech therapists hold a master’s degree from an accredited university program. All therapists actively pursue continuing education opportunism on a regular basis in their areas of specialty. Some therapists have earned an even higher level of qualification and have earned and received certification in a specific area of practice.
Who Can Benefit From Referral?
Referral is indicated for infants and children of all ages with diagnoses or problems including but not limited to:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Spina Bifida
- Congenital Anomalies
- Developmental Delay
- PDD/Autism
Physical and Occupational therapists treat Orthopedic Conditions, Cognitive deficits, Visual deficits, Sensory Integration difficulties and Traumatic Injuries including:
- Limited range of Motion
- Increased tone and spasticity
- Decreased Strength and Endurance
- Limited attention span
- Problem Solving deficits
- Learning disabilities
- Visual perceptual problems
- Visual Motor problems
- Fractures
- Strains
- Sprains
- Sensory integration issues
Speech Therapists treat Speech Language and Swallowing Difficulties including:
- Speech delay
- Articulation disorder
- Phonological Processing Disorder
- Apraxia of Speech
- Receptive/Expressive Language disorder
- Voice Disorder (e.g., Hoarseness, vocal nodules)
- Dysphagia (Swallowing or Feeding difficulties)
- Stuttering
Referrals are required from a Physician. We are committed to working closely with the patient, parents, physician and teacher. The physician is provided with the evaluation report and progress notes on a regular basis. In this way we work to increase communication among all involved with the child in order to enhance the child’s progress and outcome.
Initial Visit The initial visit is usually a one hour visit with a therapist. Please bring the referral from your doctor, a list of medications that your child may be taking and arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment on your first visit.
