The Department of Pharmacy Services provides prescribed all medication to the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient services, ambulatory care, and the pain management clinic. The Pharmacy staff consists of a team of 14 technicians, and 13 Pharmacists --- as well as a state-of-the-art robot that assists the Pharmacy team in making deliveries throughout the hospital.
Pharmacists at Backus Hospital are also involved in many daily activities including:
- Drug therapy monitoring
- Medication use Evaluation
- Drug information
- Professional Health Education
- Patient Education
- Community Health Programs
The department also provides anti-coagulation (blood thinning) services. Pharmacists provide point-of-care testing, patient education, and drug therapy management to patients at the anti-coagulation clinic.
The Department of Pharmacy Services is also a teaching site for the University of Connecticut, Doctor of Pharmacy Program.
